OUGD404: Type Journal

Hand Painted Signs

All hand painted type each with subtle serifs and slightly tapered stems. Each sign has a different character communicating the product they display, the iron mongery sign has thicker stems and a drop shadow connoting strength, solidity and metal, the 'key' in the key cutting sign has wider, more distinct serifs and thinner, straighter stems mimicking lead/typewriter type connoting feelings of spies and secrecy. However overall theses typefaces are all incredibly decorative, the serifs give them a historical and respectful character that echoes the grandure of Victorian age (which is supported by the word emporium) yet the hand rendered production informalises them, making them friendly and approachable and altogether appropriate.
