1. What
skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you
think you have applied them?
Understanding type, what is most effective in
certain contexts for legibility and readability, as well as understanding
the tones and characteristics that categories of type posses (e.g. Serif
usually equals formal, script, elegance and humanist touch etc).
Understanding grids and how important they are for
effective layout design, how to apply a grid to different styles of layout.
Hierarchies and understanding their relevance to how a page is read and
information absorbed.
Understanding colour and how colours can impact a
design and change the moods of an audience as well as the connotations that
exist attached to certain colours.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production
have you developed and how have they informed your design development
process?
Sketching and the importance of visualising an idea
before producing it, the importance of hand rendering things and drawing
things out.
The method of producing a typeface and how much
easier it can be when we use the glyphs
ABCXYZ as our base to produce other letterforms.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and
how have/will you capitalise on these?
Understand and knowledge is my strong point as well
as having strong clearly defined opinions. In regards to practical work
honestly I don’t believe anything I produced can be considered an effective
design, from the hand skills of manipulating letterforms for the type, to
the digitising of letterforms, to the sketching and visualising page layout
(and transferring these ideas into a digital format) I can call myself
so-so with confidence but certainly not strong. My one strength is choosing
a font with an appropriate tone, I can understand how a font/typeface will
be received in particular contexts and choose a type that is most suitable.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and
how will you address these in the future?
A lack of quality, I feel as though I rush things
sometimes and that there’s more effort that can be put into any piece that
I produce. As well as a lack of regular dedication, I find it difficult to
commit to consistently posting/working on a certain task and I’m an expert
at putting things off (type journal for example). There is no solution
other than hard graft and forcing my brain into the correct mind set, (that
and scaring myself, threatening myself with a possibly fail outcome if I
don’t continually update/get onto a task straight away)

5. Identify five things that you will do differently
next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
1. Keeping up to date, this will save stress and
time later on and mean I can dedicate more time into producing better
quality work
2. Dedicating more time for particular tasks,
instead of believing I can finish a task in a day, instead dedicate two
days to it to complete it more thoroughly
3. Put more effort in, instead of saying that’s
enough continually say, it’s never enough
4. Search for more outside sources- this was
something I only began doing towards the ned of this module and the outside
resources I found on subjects such as type categories really helped in
later tasks
5. Be more motivated, understand just how important
this module is/every module is will give it a higher priority in my mind.

The evaluation of your work is an important part of
the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It
is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written
evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If
you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a
member of staff as soon as possible.
