OUGD404: Hierarchies: Newspapers

Following on from our session of discovering hierarchies within publications we were to continue the task, here is another page from the news paper i, chosen because of the amount of content crammed into one page. The more there is to see and read, the more complicated the hierarchy becomes.

With this page it was surprising to see the advert not taking the centre stage of attention, of course it came in the top group of eye catching material but in this page the photograph takes the number one position. Despite this though if we look at how the page flows as a whole we can notice a similar pattern of the eye being constantly drawn back towards the ad, the columns above and to the left of it lead the attention of the reader back to it and even the centre stage picture allows the eye to flow easily downwards towards the i puzzle page section and back onto the ad in the bottom right corner.
